Editorial design for Phono – a music magazine for record collectors
About the magazine
Phono is a life style magazine for people who buy, listen to and collect vinyl records. The magazine covers both new and older music, the industry itself and the community of record enthusiasts.

The square design resembles an album cover, and the typography is inspired by records from the early 60’s. It is an easy reading sans serif, with some funny quirks. The magazine is divided into side A and B, with an interlude in between. The three parts are colour coded in orange, pink and turquoise

The interlude: Inspired by Peter Saville's work in Factory Records
The interlude consists of an article about New Order's album Power Corruption and Lies. The design is inspired by the original cover artwork made by Peter Saville. He designed a colour-based code system, which can be translated into letters.
For this project, I used the decoder from the back of the original sleeve to code and make parts of the article into a pattern.
